Sometimes I think I am a fool for choosing this career. Working in a pet store has got to be less stressful. I was just sitting here tonight minding my own, enjoying a Foo Fighters Skin and Bones acoustic concert on HDnet. I wasn’t looking for trouble. Its 10 o’clock at night. My brain was in a “power down” phase. I had received a bounced email earlier tonight from a domain we set up TLS with last Thursday. The TLS was going to replace a point to point VPN we had for this domain. The VPN was retired on Sunday. Evidentally the VPN retirement cut off communication with this domain. Dammit. I had to activate the code to reverse the “power down” phase and ramp things back up. Emails, trace routes, telnets and firewall log reviews by TB and myself and I think I know what happened. In the setup for the TLS we bypassed our normal last hop for outbound email. This changed the NAT for outbound email to this particular domain and the other end must have an ACL or a spam filter blocking us for not having this traffic not match our MX record. Dammit again.
